Once, long ago, a pilot crashed his airplane in the vast silence of the Sahara Desert. He was alone, far from any human help, with only a few days’ supply of water. As he slept beside the broken plane, worrying about survival, he was awakened at sunrise by a small, clear voice, “Please… draw me a sheep.”

The pilot opened his eyes and saw a strange little boy standing calmly before him. The boy did not look frightened or lost. He simply repeated his request as if it were the most natural thing in the world. The puzzled pilot tried drawing several sheep, but the boy rejected them all. Finally, the pilot drew a simple box and said the sheep was inside it. The boy’s face lit up with joy. At last, he had the sheep he wanted.

This mysterious child was the Little Prince. Little by little, over the days that followed, the pilot learned the prince’s story.

The Little Prince had come from a tiny planet, scarcely larger than a house, called Asteroid B‑612. On this small world grew a beautiful but proud rose. The prince loved the rose deeply, yet her vanity and small complaints confused him. Unsure of her love and hurt by her behavior, he decided to leave his planet and travel through the universe.

His journey took him to several strange planets, each inhabited by a single adult. 

On the first planet lived a king who believed he ruled over everything, though he had no subjects. 

On another lived a vain man who wanted only admiration. 

On the next was a drunkard who drank to forget the shame of drinking. 

Then there was a businessman who spent all his time counting stars, believing he owned them. 

Another planet held a lamp-lighter who endlessly lit and extinguished a lamp according to strict orders. 

Finally there was a geographer who wrote about the world but never explored it.

From each of these adults the Little Prince learned something sad about grown-ups: they were serious about strange things, and they often forgot what truly mattered.

Eventually the prince came to Earth, where he wandered through deserts and mountains searching for understanding.

There he met a fox who asked to be tamed. At first the prince did not understand what that meant. The fox patiently explained that taming means creating ties, making someone unique and precious among millions. When the prince finally tamed the fox, a friendship formed between them.

Before the prince left, the fox shared a secret that changed everything.

What is essential is invisible to the eye.

The prince suddenly understood his rose. Though there were thousands of roses in the world, none was like his own,  because he had cared for her, protected her, and loved her. That love made her unique.

Soon afterward, the prince prepared to return to his distant planet. But the journey required leaving his earthly body behind. One evening, under the quiet desert stars, he allowed a snake to bite him so his spirit could travel back home.

The pilot watched in sorrow as the small golden figure fell silently into the sand.

The next morning the body was gone.

The pilot eventually repaired his airplane and returned to the world of men. 

Yet he never forgot the Little Prince. Even now, whenever he looks up at the stars ✨ he imagines the prince somewhere among them,  laughing, caring for his rose, and perhaps worrying about whether the sheep has eaten it.

And so the story leaves us with a gentle question, if somewhere among the stars a little prince is watching over his rose, how differently might we look at the night sky?  @✒️GG.🗡️
