🧑‍🎤Stranger by Albert Camus ✒️ Retold by ...... 🪶Raconteur Guru Gurunay 🗡️

There once lived, under the bright and indifferent sun of Algiers, a man named Meursault, a quiet clerk whose life seemed to pass not with purpose, but with the slow drifting of days.

He belonged to no grand passion, no consuming grief, no deep ambition. Life came to him as the heat comes to the earth, simply, without question.

When word arrived that his mother had died, Meursault traveled to the home where she had spent her final days. Yet, before her still body, he did not weep. He felt the weight of the sun, the stiffness of his collar, the ache of fatigue, but not sorrow as the world expects it. Those around him whispered silently, that something was amiss.

Returning to Algiers, life resumed its quiet rhythm. He swam in the sea, began an easy companionship with Marie, and drifted into the affairs of a neighbor named Raymond, a man tangled in violence and desire.

Meursault neither judged nor resisted, he simply existed, as one might stand in the tide and let it pass.

Then came a day of relentless heat, where the sun pressed down like a hammer upon the earth. On a lonely beach, amid the shimmer of light and the blur of sweat, Meursault encountered a man, an unnamed Arab. The moment was small, almost absurd in its simplicity. The sun burned, the knife flashed, and Meursault, blinded by the unbearable glare, pulled the trigger. Then again. And again. Not out of hatred, nor fear, but as if compelled by the indifferent force of the moment itself.

Thus began his trial, but the courtroom was less concerned with the dead man than with Meursault’s soul. They spoke of his failure to cry at his mother’s funeral, his strange detachment, his refusal to play the roles society demands,  so he was judged not only for murder, but for being a stranger to the human script, for not pretending being  meaningful, or understanding meaning, where he found none.

Condemned to death, Meursault awaited his end in a silent cell.

There, stripped of illusion, he came to see the world as it was, a vast, indifferent place,  free of comforting lies.

In the face of this quiet universe, he found a strange peace.

If life held no higher meaning, then it was his to live without apology, his to accept without fear.

And so, on the edge of death, Meursault embraced the gentle indifference of the world.

He opened himself to its vast silence, and for the first time, he felt not like a stranger, but simply a man, alive beneath the same sun that had always shone, unmoved, above him.

Such is the tale woven by Albert Camus, a story not of answers, but of the quiet, unsettling questions,

Must life have meaning, or is it enough, simply, to be?  @ 🪶 GG✒️🗡️
